Re: light diffusers

Hi If you are referring to something similar to a light shelf then this may be achieved by using a Component block Standard type near the window and change the material Specularity value to 0 in order to model a purely diffuse reflection. https://designbuilder.co.uk/helpv6.0/#SurfaceProperties.htm B...

Re: CFD simulation

Hi

As described on the program help the airflow rates through open windows, vents, doors and holes can be calculated using the Calculated natural ventilation option.
You can find a webinar recording demonstrating the process involved at: https://www.youtube.com/user/DesignBuilderUK

Re: kWh electricity or refrigerant

Yes, the District Cooling output on the End uses table refers to the electricity consumption in kWh but it is also the cooling load because of the COP=1.

Re: Daikin VRF outdoor unit template

Hi Frank, VRF Daikin models have not been implemented in DesignBuilder v5.5 and v6.0. However you can build the Daikin, or any other manufacturer, performance curves using DesignBuilder curve generation spreadsheets that are available to download at https://designbuilder.co.uk/download/release-softw...

Re: Merge Zone error

Hi, I believe you are running an old DesignBuilder version and this has been improved in the latest release v6.0. To fix the issue on older versions you will need to navigate to the Zone HVAC group ( at Detailed HVAC interface) and update the zones selected. The merged child zone cannot be included ...

Re: Zone HVAC Energy Consumption

Hi, I'm not sure if you are using DesignBuilder but the principle here is the same as running directly on E+. The results you are getting seems to be expected in hot climates. I would suggest to study the zone heat balance results to understand the cause of the cooling energy and adjust the model in...

Re: Tried to change the ASE value of daylighting, but it won't be set

Hi, As described on the Program Help for version 6.0: "If your building includes internal blinds then you should assess sDA including the impact of these blinds as described in Section 2.2.6 of IES LM 83 2012. DesignBuilder v6.0 is not able to include blinds in the Daysim analysis so you should...

Re: PMV Output

Hi Lance, I would suggest to: 1. open the eplusout.eso file in DB Results Viewer https://designbuilder.co.uk//helpv6.0/#ResultsProcessor.htm 2. select the reported period 3. sort the report variable by name, 4. select the PMV output for all zones, 5. add these outputs to one graph, 6. change to grid...

Re: Zones not getting created

Hi,

It looks like the Automatic zoning model option is switch off. Turning this option back on or running the Rezone block command accessed from Tools menu will rezone the block.

Re: How to create building blocks from outline blocks ???

Hi, If the Outline block intersects any existing Building block then the conversion will fail. The Outline bock intersection needs to be removed eg. using the cutting tool. The Ghost block tool can be used to identify the intersection. https://designbuilder.co.uk/helpv5.5/#GhostSelectedBlocks.htm BR...

Re: Chilled ceiling information

Hi, There are 3 ways to define the cooling capacity of the chilled ceiling. 1-Design capacity (W) 2-Capacity per floor area (W/m2) 3-Fraction of autosized capacity For more information about this component see the Program Help link below: http://www.designbuilder.co.uk/helpv6.0/#Chilled_Ceiling_-_Co...

Re: HVAC Type depend on hot and cold water source

Hi, I would suggest to start with the "Fan Coil unit (4-pipe) with District Heating + Cooling" and then make the necessary input adjustments afterwords on the HVAC tab. Note that these templates are for Simple HVAC Model option and it does not really matter which template is selected since...
