Re: Modeling an operable EXTERIOR shade

Hi

Yes, you can model external window shading by selecting the 'Window shading' > Position ="3- outside".
See Program help "Position" section:

Re: Unistalling issue with DB 5.0.3.007

Hi

If the SETUP.EXE file is missing from the Installshield folder mentioned above then one workaround is to re-run the old v5.0 installer to reinstate files. Then you should be able to follow the manual uninstall steps.

Re: Cannot import DXF. to DB

Hi, Sometimes the units are not correctly set on the DXF file. I suggest you to try the different units available at DesignBuilder import wizard. http://www.designbuilder.co.uk/helpv5.5/#_Importing_DXF.htm If you still have issues then submit a ticket and attach your DXF file. https://support.design...

Re: Zone Heights

Hi, The zone height will be calculated automatically as the average zone height based on the block geometry entered. If this is not correct for the building being modelled according to the NCM Conventions then it can be over-ridden manually at zone level in the Activity Tab. For more information see...

Re: skylights, component blocks etc

Hi, -> how can we create skylights? These are placed as roof windows using the add window tool. -> also , I have some doubts about ORIGIN IN DESIGN BUILDER The 0,0,0 origin is the point where the lines for the main axis xyz intersect. -> Are basement and ground floor automatically detected in design...

Re: Construction with different wall thickness

Yes, you can use the Sub-surface object to draw the wall second type of wall. Then assign the 2nd wall construction to the sub-surface construction. https://designbuilder.co.uk/helpv5.5/#Add_Sub-Surface.htm Placing an small hanging partition can also be used to split the wall surface into 2 adjacent...

Re: Printing the HVAC system model

Hi

One approach would be to zoom in to each section of the HVAC to a point where you can clearly see the flow arrows and capture the screen. The use MS Paint to compile the HVAC sections in one single image.

Re: Small change leads to huge difference in simulation duration

Hi, This increase in simulation time is expected when the Radiator component ( ZoneHVAC:Baseboard:RadiantConvective ) is used. Basically, the calculation will partially distribute the heat to the zone air by convection and also by radiation on people and all surfaces within the zone. Then, it will b...

Re: summer thermal stability

Hi,

My suggestion would be to have a look a zone heat balance (with surfaces hourly results) and also at the window heat transfer values, and compare the results for both cases to understand why the temperature does not rise when the SHGC is higher.

Re: Changing COP doesn't change electricity consumption

Hi, When using Detailed HVAC interface the HVAC performance data needs to be entered on each component directly. For example, you will need to navigate to the Boiler and/or Chiller component and enter the CoP accordingly. The COP data field in HVAC tab is only used for Simple HVAC model option and f...
