Multi layered wall CFD

Hello,

Is any one know how to do CFD and temperature distribution for a multi-layered wall section using DB?

kindly see the attached picture for a similar example for what I mean?

Hello,

I'm afraid that Designbuilder CFD doesn't allow you to to check the temperature distribution in a solid layer.
This will be possible with the next DB CFD upgrade expected in 2016.

This might not be what you are looking for but the Energyplus simulation allow you to retrieve the surface temperature at several nodes inside the wall. This can be achieved by running a simulation with the Finite Difference solution algorithm.
Let me know if you need more information about obtaining these outputs.

If you may post a reply at your free time with more information about obtaining these outputs using energy plus. So I might be able to present the results graphically via Excel.

Hello Mohamed,

To generate the surface temperatures nodes inside the constructions (walls, roofs,..) you will need to:

-Install the latest DBv4.5 beta;

- Set the Solution algorithm to "2-Finite Difference" at Simulation screen Calculation Options>Options tab > under Advanced\General Solution header;

- Select the new "Surface node temperatures" output at Calculation Options>Output tab > under Miscellaneous Outputs header;

- Then open the simulation ESO file using the DB Results Viewer tool available at the downloads section;

- Check the outputs 'CondFD Surface Temperature Node' for each construction.
You can export the results to csv file or use the Graph display.
