Setpoint Managers are one of the high-level control constructs in EnergyPlus. A Setpoint Manager (SPM) is able to access data from any of the HVAC system nodes and use this data to calculate a setpoint (often a temperature setpoint) for one or more other HVAC system nodes.
Setpoint managers are added from the sub-loop level by clicking on the Add Setpoint manager toolbar icon. The process is summarised below,
Navigate to the sub-loop where the SPM is to be added.
Click on the Add Setpoint manager toolbar icon to start the command.
Move the mouse cursor to the sensor point on the sub loop layout schematic, i.e. to the point where the SPM will sense the conditions as in input to the control logic. A red marker appears on the line at this point.
Click with the mouse to define the sensor point. A "tentative" SPM schematic object now appears on the screen, moving as you move the mouse cursor.
Move the mouse to point on the diagram where you would like the SPM itself to be placed and click with the mouse to place it.
Select the SPM so it is highlighted in red and right click on it with the mouse to open the context menu. Now click on the Edit menu item to open the Edit Setpoint Manager dialog. Here you can enter the SPM details such as type, control variable etc.
